Survey: Employees Want More Recognition

A new survey about employee recognition programs has results that give employers an opportunity.  The results were clear: Employees want recognition, and employers may have neglected this over the past few years as challenges from the pandemic took us all by storm. Of the more than 1,300 employees surveyed, nearly half said they want more recognition for their work. About one-fifth said they are never recognized.

The national survey by Washington, D.C.-based Eagle Hill Consulting provides valuable insights into what employees are expecting. When asked about their preference for recognition, cash or gifts and time off were at the top of the list. The ability to choose rewards was another popular choice, as was earning experience opportunities, such as tickets to events. A thank-you email or note, public recognition, and employee of the week/month programs also received favorable responses.

Employee recognition is part of a total rewards program that every employer should think carefully about as part of the overall compensation and benefits employees want in exchange for their hard work. Simply asking employees what recognition incentivizes them to do their best can provide an employer with an understanding of what their workers want.

A consistent recognition program can help your organization become a workplace of choice. If you have any questions, please email the Employers Council Member Experience Team.
