To address systemic workforce skill gaps, a bill passed by the Colorado Legislature in 2021 established the State Apprenticeship Agency to expand registered apprenticeships by leveraging the creativity and innovation of a wide array of organizations around the state.
Now the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) is seeking organizations of all types to apply for approval as a Qualified Apprenticeship Intermediary that, as CDLE explains in a news release, “will be uniquely positioned to support and accelerate Registered Apprenticeship expansion in Colorado and will be eligible for competitive funding opportunities and other benefits.”

We frequently hear from our members that they are grappling with workforce challenges, including applicants who are under skilled and/or unprepared to fill their vacant jobs. Passively waiting for the perfect applicant to apply is not an effective strategy when labor markets are tight and highly competitive for talented workers; as well, skill needs are evolving fast and education providers are struggling to satisfy business needs.
