Since January 27, 2020, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has renewed the public health emergency (PHE) concerning COVID-19 every three months. Effective April 16, 2022, it was renewed again "as a result of the continued consequences of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic."
Unless there is a statement from HHS to the contrary, we anticipate this being in effect through mid-July. The Secretary of HHS has indicated that HHS will provide states with 60 days' notice prior to the termination of the public health emergency declaration for COVID-19.
If you are an employer with employees in Colorado, you must continue to offer Public Health Emergency leave for 30 days beyond any state or federal declaration, which means that if the declaration remains in effect for the next 90 days, the Healthy Families and Workplace Act PHE leave is extended through at least mid-August.
Employers Council members with questions about mandatory leaves at the state and federal level can visit our website for Whitepapers and other information. To learn more, contact us at info@employerscouncil.org.
