There has been an update to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The FCRA affects employers that hire an investigator or a service to conduct background screenings before hiring or making employment-related decisions. The law allows a candidate to know what is in their record and have an opportunity to correct information that is not accurate.
If employers use a third party to conduct background checks, they must provide a disclosure and authorization form and follow rules for managing the background checking process when a candidate has a record that is concerning. Addresses of whom to contact for complaints were most of what was updated on the form.
